5 Steps to Breaking a Bad Habit

Make a list of all the bad habits you may have. This is so everything is organized and you know exactly what you have to break. I recommend breaking bad habits one at a time. This will make it an easier process. Once you made your list, follow the instructions below:

1. Choose the bad habit you’d like to break. (Select one on the list.)

2. Know why you want to break that habit. (All bad habits have negative effects on our lives, whether it’s for our health, or even because it causes strains in our relationships. Make sure you write down all the negative effects it has on your life for you to remember.)

3. Go cold turkey. (Completely stop performing the bad habit. This is the hardest part, but a crucial step in the process. Your body “got-used” to you performing this bad habit, and when you go cold turkey, it’s not going to like it. However, we are lucky our bodies recover very quickly, and it will adopt as long as you have the strength to continue on.)

4. Discipline yourself when you slack. (When you go cold turkey and continue through with it, your going to be surprised at how successful you’ve been at breaking the habit in such a short period of time. However, we tend to slack sometimes. When you do, discipline yourself. Remind yourself of the negative effects this habit has on your life. Think about the consequences over and over and over again. Sooner or later, you’re going to completely stop once you become fully-aware how bad you really need to break this habit.)

5. Cross the finish line. (Within a short period of time with discipline and fighting, you’re going to cross the finish line, completely breaking the habit. The urges and reflexes will go away, and you’ll be a better human being.)

You’d be surprised at what you actually can do if you just apply yourself. Nothing is impossible and you only need yourself to survive. Nothing is beyond your control.
